“Gary F. Rogers, M.D., J.D., LL.M., M.B.A., M.P.H., is an academic pediatric plastic surgeon who specializes in various craniofacial anomalies, including plagiocephaly.  A native of California, he earned his undergraduate education at UCLA in 1987 and matriculated at Tulane University School of Medicine. During the next four years, he completed three concurrent graduate degrees: a degree in medicine with honors (1987-1991; Alpha Omega Alpha), a Masters of Business Administration (1988-1991; A.B. Freeman School of Business) and a Masters of Public Health (1990-1991; Tulane University School of Public Health). Between 1991 and 1997, he completed a residency in orthopedic surgery from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (1991-1996) and a concurrent degree in law (J.D) from the University of North Carolina, School of Law (1993-1997). Subsequent training included plastic surgery residency at University of Tennessee, Chattanooga (1997-1999), and fellowships in pediatric plastic/craniofacial surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard (2000-2001) and orthopedic hand and microsurgery at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard (2001-2002). 

 

From 2002-2010, Dr. Rogers was a faculty member of the Division of Plastic and Oral Surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital and he held an academic appointment at Harvard Medical School. During this time, he co-invented two medical devices designed to prevent plagiocephaly, including the PerfectNoggin Infant Sleep Solution.  In 2010, Dr. Rogers joined the staff at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. where he serves as the Chief of Pediatric Plastic Surgery. He is a Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at the George Washington School of Medicine, and holds the Johnston Family Endowed Chair in Pediatric Plastic Surgery. The perennial student, he completed a Masters in Law (LL.M) focusing on health care law from the George Washington School of Law in 2016, and is currently a student in the Masters of Applied Economics program at the George Washington University Columbian College of Arts and Science. 

 

Dr. Rogers is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and holds a subspecialty board certification in hand surgery (CAQHS) from the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Society of Plastic Surgeons, and a member of the International Society of Craniofacial Surgeons. Dr. Rogers has authored over 200 peer-review articles and book chapters, including a number on plagiocephaly, and has lectured at numerous regional, national, and international meetings.  He was the 2019 American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons Visiting Scholar and lectured at academic institutions throughout the United States on topics in the field of pediatric plastic surgery.
